Elastane, also called spandex, is commonly blended with other fibres in leggings, swimwear and stretch clothing. Because the surrounding material differs between garments, Ariel recommends following the full care label rather than selecting a programme from the elastane content alone.

Many blends permit machine washing, but drying and ironing restrictions vary. Some items can be tumble dried as labelled, while others need air drying. When ironing is allowed, use the lowest suitable setting; unnecessary heat is not a useful shortcut for maintaining a stretch garment's appearance.
