Cold and Warm Wash Comparisons
Water temperature works alongside detergent, time, and mechanical action. The warmer option is not automatically better for a garment, and the colder option does not remove every restriction on washing. Match the process to the label and the type of soil, while keeping dye transfer and fabric distortion in mind when deciding which items can share a load.
Build groups around actual needs
Whirlpool's sorting guide considers color, fabric, soil, care labels, and whether an item is new. It separates heavy fabrics from delicate clothing and highlights dye-transfer risks. This framework treats sorting as a way to match treatment, rather than a decorative arrangement of colored piles.

Do not ignore the exceptions
A printed white item may not belong with plain whites, and an embellished garment may need more care than its main fiber suggests. Check the finished item before committing it to a load. Sorting should make the selected water temperature and cycle suitable for every piece, not just for the most robust garment in the drum.
