Denim, cotton, down-filled items and stretch fabrics do not automatically belong in one wash. Ariel recommends turning jeans inside out for a cool gentle programme, separating cotton colours, and checking down-filled garments for machine-washing permission and intact seams before loading.

Elastane-rich clothing introduces further restrictions, particularly around heat and certain additives. The practical starting point is the fabric care label, followed by sorting items that share compatible needs. A programme suitable for sturdy cotton should not become the default for every material in the basket.
