Washing Wool Sweaters
A wool sweater needs its own care decision before it joins a load. Some items are machine washable, while others require hand washing or professional attention. The knit's shape also needs protection after cleaning. Choose a permitted process and remove water gently rather than relying on a fabric name or a reassuring cycle label alone.
Separate machine washing from hand washing
Whirlpool distinguishes washable wool from items requiring more specialized care. Its hand-washing method uses a mild wool-friendly detergent and cool water, followed by careful rinsing and gentle pressing to remove water. The garment's own instructions determine whether machine treatment is appropriate in the first place.

Support the fabric when drying
The guide recommends checking drying instructions rather than treating all wool items alike. For air drying, it describes laying the item flat across a suitable surface or rack. Avoid assuming that a familiar fiber name overrides the needs of an older, delicate, or specially constructed garment whose shape requires additional support.
