Understanding Do Not Tumble Dry

A prohibition on tumble drying concerns the method as well as heat. Choosing a cooler program is not automatically the same as following a natural-drying instruction. Check whether the garment needs to be laid flat, hung, or dried another way, and plan that space before washing rather than discovering the restriction when the item is already wet.

Know what the dryer symbol permits

Tumble drying means drying laundry in a rotating dryer rather than on a rack or line. Whirlpool explains that a circle within a square identifies tumble drying, while a cross over that symbol means the garment should not be tumble dried. Check that permission before selecting a temperature.

Understanding Do Not Tumble Dry: Tumble Drying Includes Heat and No-Heat Settings

No heat is still tumble drying

The no-heat setting moves clothes in room-temperature air; it is not the same operation as laying them flat to dry. Low, high, and no-heat options serve different purposes. The garment label should guide the choice, particularly for items vulnerable to loss of shape, shrinkage, or damage to decorative elements.
