Reading Laundry Care Symbols
Care symbols describe separate operations rather than one universal permission to wash. Start with the basic shape, then read any cross, line, dot, or temperature number that modifies it. A washable item can still require special drying or ironing, so review the complete label before deciding that it belongs with an ordinary laundry load.

Maytag's chart distinguishes the tub used for washing from the square used for drying. Dots indicate temperature information and lines help describe the required cycle. A hand-wash mark should be recognized before deciding whether the item belongs in the machine with an ordinary load.

Finishing has its own limits
The guide also covers bleach, ironing, and professional-cleaning symbols. A permitted wash method does not automatically authorize tumble drying or pressing at high heat. Reviewing all stages before starting helps avoid reaching the end of a wash cycle and discovering that the garment needs space for flat drying or a separate finishing approach.
